# Google Ads Financial Verification in 2027: The License Isn't What Fails

> Google Ads financial services verification reaches the US and Canada in early 2027. Licensed firms will not fail on the license; they will fail on records that do not match the registry character for character.

On October 20, Google announced that its Financial Services Verification program is coming to the United States and Canada in early 2027. If you advertise a financial product, you will have to prove to Google that a regulator or a recognized registry says you are allowed to sell it.

The program already covers 42 countries and roughly 2 billion internet users, per Google's announcement. The US and Canada were the last big holes in the map.

Every write-up lands on the same advice. Gather your license documents, you have a year.

That advice is not wrong. It is aimed at the wrong problem, the same way most coverage of what Google Marketing Live 2026 actually signaled missed the operational side.

### TL;DR

- Google Ads financial services verification reaches the US and Canada in early 2027, with a phased rollout adapted to each country.

- In the UK, the check fails on records mismatches, not licensing. Google requires a contact in your ad account whose email domain matches your regulator filing.

- Google named the American Bankers Association registry for banks. It named none for mortgage brokers, insurance agencies, RIAs, or title companies.

- This thins your auction. Google removed 602 million scam ads in 2025. Some were bidding on your keywords.

### Google Named a Registry for Banks. It Named Nothing for Everyone Else.

For the US, Google says it is working with the American Bankers Association to use its registry to verify authorized banks. In Canada, it is engaging with the Canadian Bankers Association.

Banks. That is the only lane Google has described.

In the markets where the program already runs, the covered categories are much wider. Google's Financial Services Verification policy lists banking, credit cards, credit and loans, investment, brokerages and day trading, bonds, commodities and futures trading, and insurance.

So if you run a mortgage brokerage in Boca Raton, an insurance agency in West Palm, or an RIA in Fort Lauderdale, you are almost certainly in scope and no published registry covers you yet. Google says it will provide country-specific information, including accepted registries, ahead of the rollout. Until then, anyone telling you exactly what to submit is guessing.

### In the UK, the License Was Never the Thing That Failed

The UK has enforced this since September 6, 2021, and the failure pattern sits in Google's own UK policy page.

To verify there, you need a contact inside your Google Ads account whose email domain matches your FCA-registered firm. If that contact uses a public email domain like Gmail, the address has to be an identical match to the one in the FCA registration. Not similar. Identical. Verification can also fail if your organization name differs from the regulator's records, or if your FCA registration number is different or missing there.

Read that as an operations problem, not a legal one.

A fully licensed firm fails because somebody filed a d/b/a instead of the legal entity name. Or the registered email belongs to a partner who left in 2019.

None of that is a compliance failure. All of it is a records failure. And records failures route through a regulator, which means the clock is theirs, not yours.

### Google Ads Financial Services Verification Is an Auction Event, Not a Compliance Task

In 2025, Google removed 602 million scam-related ads and suspended 4 million scam-related accounts, out of more than 8.3 billion ads blocked or removed overall, per its 2025 Ads Safety Report.

Financial keywords are a natural home for that kind of advertiser. Debt relief, refinance, insurance quotes, trading education. Some slice of the competition setting your cost per click is not a licensed competitor. It is a lead broker who will not survive a registry check.

Verification removes them on a date. That is not a cost. That is a thinner auction for whoever is verified when enforcement starts.

### Early 2027 Is Not a Deadline. It Is a Clock You Do Not Control.

When Google expanded the program to 24 EU and EEA countries this past June, it gave businesses 30 days to complete the process and said it would restrict financial services ads for anyone not verified in that window. Rolling enforcement started July 23.

Google has not published US windows. It says advertisers will be notified if and when they need to complete the process, before policy enforcement begins.

So the real timeline is not "early 2027." It is an unannounced Tuesday followed by a short window. Amending a name on a state license does not reliably happen in a month. The Google Ads side of this is an afternoon. The regulator side is the project.

### If Your Agency Runs the Ad Account, Settle That First

Google's UK page lets agencies and other entities that manage the account on your behalf apply. The matching contact from your firm's email domain still has to be inside the account that serves the ads. If your financial ads run in an agency-owned account with nobody from your licensed entity on it, that account fails the UK version of this check until someone is added.

Whether the US version works identically is not yet published. The safe setup is the one that passes either way: a user on your licensed entity's domain sits in the account that serves your financial ads.

### What To Do This Week

- Pull your licensed entity's registry record and compare it against your Google Ads account: legal name, license number, registered address, email on file. Mark every field that does not match character for character. That list is the project.

- Fix the regulator side first. If the registered email is personal or belongs to someone who left, file the change with your licensing body now. If your account is under a d/b/a and your license is under an LLC, align the account to the license.

- Confirm who owns the account serving your financial ads. If it is your agency, add a user on your licensed entity's email domain with admin access.

### FAQ

#### Does this affect me if I am a mortgage broker and not a bank?

Almost certainly yes. Google's announcement names the American Bankers Association registry for banks only, but the existing policy covers credit and loans, investment, brokerages, and insurance. Google says it will share country-specific information, including accepted registries, before rollout.

#### What happens to my ads if I do not verify?

In live markets, unverified advertisers cannot run financial services ads in the locations that require verification. In this year's EU rollout, Google gave businesses 30 days to complete the process before restricting their financial services ads. Google has not published the US window.

#### I am already identity-verified with Google. Is that enough?

No. Google describes this check as sitting on top of identity verification. The first confirms who you are. This one confirms a regulator says you can sell what you advertise. More than 97% of the ads people see on Google already come from identity-verified advertisers, per Google's internal US and Canada data from September 2025 through August 2026. The second check is the real filter.

### A Sorting Mechanism, Not a Tax

Most compliance news is a tax. This one is a sorting mechanism.

For firms that are who they say they are, the only real risk is a clerical mismatch nobody has checked in six years. For the rest, this is the end of the campaign.
